Counselling Approaches

Counselling approaches vary with individual needs. Therapeutic interventions vary with assessment – considerations will be given to issues individuals are facing, suitability of the approach, readiness, prior consent, etc. The counsellor respects individuality and diversity and believes that individuals have internal strengths and resources to resolve their issues ultimately as healing takes place. The core therapeutic approaches include narrative therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy, choice theory & reality therapy, acceptance & commitment therapy as well as mindfulness practices.

Counselling today is seen both as a form of mental health support and an agency for personal development.
